Do something nice today. It's incredible to see so many people using what little time they have to create something and share it. I look forward to whatever you create next!

DeadSM's News

Posted by DeadSM - January 29th, 2024

It's been only a week since the last post, and I can't believe we are already at 200. If you are here for the redraw, here you go. :)(Rated M for suggestive clothing and adult themes; it's Morrigan from Darkstalkers.)Morrigan Redraw (the old one is at the back for comparison)

Now, on to a bit of a personal note. THANK YOU for being my driver. I am constantly wanting to improve and find out where my limit is. Thanks to your interactions, I know I have so much more to give. I told myself I would put myself out there, build a portfolio, and one day communicate with some artists I admire. (BTW, YOU are fantastic; I look up to YOU.)

Last week, while painting Ash from the Evil Dead for the Dreamcast collab, I fell onto a MacBook and created a gash in my head. I'll spare you any more details, but it caused me delays in my studies. On the bright side, painting blood while seeing a direct reference was somewhat fun.

I have been trying to put in hours where I can, but it's been tough. Thankfully, there are many ways to rest and level up your art. Instead of painting, I got to read many physical books in bed. I finally have filled my bookshelf with more art books!

Amazingly, I found the artist Guweiz. This man is incredible, and I found his books inspiring. It's been a long time since I read something where I felt directly talked to. In his books, he shares some of the struggles of being an artist who wants more than anything to improve. He shows some of his early art, and in the second book, he shows pieces in the first book revamped. There is a part about social media and how hard it is to engage with that, especially connected with me. After hearing about his class, I decided to sign up for it and will follow along at the end of February.

It's been a month since I embarked on my Newgrounds art journey, and it's been a wild ride. I have tried social media, and it never felt right to me, but Newgrounds is quite different. Since starting, I have been able to get good critiques as well as supportive comments and have been able to see some inspiring work from others. I have also been featured and, best of all, participated in a few different collaborations. It's unbelievable that I almost gave up again before even starting, and there was so much waiting for me to do.

If you are an artist or someone who wants to be, don't let yourself be in the way of what could be a success. If you have always wanted to draw something unique, go and find those who already do it and try to learn from them. They may not teach you directly, but their work can get you far if you know how to observe and replicate.

As always, I look forward to what you will create.

PS: I swear I don't put ? at the end of comments. Newgrounds sometimes replaces the black heart emoji 🖤 with "?". Someone, please get to the bottom of this or tell me how to edit reply comments. Lol.

As a thank you, I redrew one of my previous works.

Check it out here: https://www.newgrounds.com/art/view/deadsm/please-stop-staring

I want to mention how grateful I am for you reading this or looking at my stuff. I have recently been on the front page now four times in the last two weeks, and it's given me an extreme desire to grow and get better so I can create things you will like.

I can't believe I got onto the front page again. Never did I think that the person who consistently scored the lowest in all of their art classes would ever find any success.

This time, I'll keep it short, but if you want a bit to read, check this out:

I usually wouldn't post studies, but I want to thank you, open up a bit, and be vulnerable. Art is hard, and it's incredible that we somehow ended up here.

Ps. I also added a process gif to the Red Knight drawing. It's embarrassing but I hope you like it!

Also, Tom, seeing you like my last post had me in shock. After all these years, you still take the time to visit your creation. I admire you and hope NG has been an amazing part of your life like it has been for me and many others.

Today, I woke up to a beautiful surprise being on the front page with my art. It made me cry like a baby. I have been on Newgrounds for over a decade now, and I never imagined that I would be creating art on it. Thank you for looking at my stuff, and thank you for thinking it deserved to be on the frontpage. It's been 11 days now since I started posting and I only hope I keep going.

Also if you don't read anything else read this: "Don't give up on creating, everyone struggles the entire time. It doesn't seem like it but every creator you love probably felt like giving up at some point. You can do this, whatever it is I believe in you!"

Incase you haven't seen it here is the piece I'm talking about! https://www.newgrounds.com/art/view/deadsm/red-crasher
