Spooky Paintovers (Help me improve!)

Do you have a piece that you would want a quick paintover of? Looking for critique? Me too!



In the spirit of tricks and treats, I am reaching out to hopefully improve in a fun way. Here are two different ways you can participate:


1. Pick a piece of mine and give it a makeover. Include spoopy elements, corrections, or whatever. Include constructive critique for things you notice as you do! Post a link here to your art so everyone can see it! If you don't feel comfortable doing a paintover, that's OK too! Drop any extra critique below.


AND/OR


2. Pick a piece of yours that you think I could help with. I'll follow the same thing and do my best. Also, let others know if it's ok if they chime in with critique, too!

First off, you are now an artist. I hereby bestow the title and all that comes with it yadayadayada...
Second, let's get to the good. Your characters here are unique and pass the shape test when the lights are off. Overall, the colors are good, too.
What I think could be improved is pushing the differences between each character's environments. A few backgrounds could be tweaked to make them feel more polished.
Linked below, I made an "advertisement" layout for the characters so they can all be shown alongside each other. I think that this by itself is huge for presentation in a post like yours. I also included some changes to a few elements, like backgrounds.

As for spooky, I think that overly rendered characters with simple shapes feels about right. Your designs are great so it worked well!

@DeadSM Look what you did to my beautiful bois! Hell yeah, you can post it, that kicks ass! Considering how many people are scared of clowns, it's worth it alone to ruin their day with NOB. Funny that you made CNT tired since this particular character tends to be everyone's punching bag in projects outside the news room. And I especially like the detailed veins on Truth Face's big testicle head! Thanks a million!!

Thanks for submitting these! It's awesome that you have been able to work in 3d. That is so cool! I decided to use the first link of Marcus to see if I could design a costume.

After that I started on a pose similar to yours and went into design mode. The biggest thing I wanted to do was simplify the colors while keeping your original vision in tact. I hope I did alright! For spooky month instead of creepy I decide to aim for making the image feel more like a kingdom hearts title menu. Your character has the same energy! I went ahead and posted it here! Let me preface this by saying, you are a fantastic artist and imo better than me! I mostly wanted to redraw this cuz it seemed fun, and I liked the designs. If I have to gives some criticism, I would say it's not entirely clear to me what the story is behind the characters (or what certain things are supposed to be). I interpreted it as Time and Art personified. With the ink person being art, and time being the sandy looking skeleton. Regardless, this was fun to draw over!

YES. Thank you!! You got the story and I will definitely take note on how I present elements as I go. My expressions and pose is so stiff compared to yours. You brought the characters to life with excellent rhythm. I am absolutely in love with how well your image reads.

Oh dang, @mrpurplemrpurple, you are a fantastic artist. Seven characters interacting from 3 point perspective is such a monumental task.

At first, I wanted to critique your perspective a bit, but I quickly realized that without tedious planning, it's dreadful. I left the painting finding much I needed to work on. I am so grateful you sent it over.

So I said f it, this should be fun and decided to let loose. I wanted to focus on getting better expressive characters and personalities. I also wanted to work on what you discussed and include better storytelling. I tried to make it seem like a sequel to your fantastic work.

@DeadSM I really like how it turned out! especially the narrative you apply to it. It's vague enough where it inspires the viewer. Like something as simple as a sin leaving the table only to find the same people just in a different form is such a cool idea. It makes me wonder if this is like the year after the game I had drawn or something else! Either way, really good job!
